From Additive Manufacturing To 3 D / 4 D Printing ”, edited by Jean- Claude Andre, reports on the recent developments in additive manufacturing technology. The book is divided into two volumes.
The first volume recorded the developments up to the end of 2002. The second volume covers the period of 2 - 1 bore years. For example, it provides an insight into the manufacturing methods such as LAM, SLA DL and SLM modelling materials, layered manufacturing processes like LIFT and Profil and corresponding software such as DFC and HSMC/SolidCAM machinery and robotics WCC, KUKA, DELTA, FSL, PROMAT, FABRIKA, MONOCO SASEC and general engineers OSPAR, OHMI, AGTEC, NPAES, CNIM, UFP/EFAC. Also the innovation processes mentioned in conferences and workshops such as ATIPIC (applied to industrial protocol), “Transition planning”. The innovative software mentioned are QATEM, Cernint (CAE), MS Visio (cadastral work). The book also records the development trends in material science, metal, storm, carbon, sandwirchmixtures, management systems as proposed by Stephenson, Manheim-Birkanza and Charles. And last but not least seminars, conferences devoted to additive technology such as occasion Route Suisse, French 3 d bureau, “Real world success stories in diverse sectors can be found in this volume.

Jean-Claude André
Additive manufacturing, which was first invented in France and then applied in the United States, is now 33 years old and represents a market of around 5 billion euros per year, with annual growth of between 20 and 30%. Today, additive manufacturing is experiencing a great amount of innovation in its processes, software, engineering and materials used. Its strength as a process has more recently allowed for the exploration of new niches, ranging from applications at nanometer and decameter scales, to others in mechanics and health. As a result, the limitations of the process have also begun to emerge, which include the quality of the tools, their cost of manufacture, the multi-material aspects, functionalities and surface conditions. Volume 2 of this series presents the current techniques, improvements and limits of additive manufacturing, providing an up-to-date review of this process.
