Polymer Nanocomposites consists of three chapters: The first chapter deals with introduction followed by a comprehensive description of various nanocomposites such as polymer nanocomposite and ceramic/polymer composite.
Nanoceramic has been identified as one of the most exciting materials of the future. It offers great promise for a wide range of applications in many sectors such as defence and military, industry, aerospace, medical and related environmental, automotive and consumer products. The use of polymers in developing nanocomposites and green composites is a subject of current research in academics and industries. Such green nanocomposites are preferred over traditional materials due to their unique characteristics. The chapter also provides history of research on resin and polymer characterisation and related microstructure analysis. Additionally, a brief survey of different experimental techniques applied for characterization and properties monitoring of nanocylinders and granules is conducted in this chapter.
Chapter 2 is on different parameters affecting the mechanical strength of nanocomposites. The Mechanical behaviors have been investigated extensively as an integral part of material science research. It includes the conventional theory based on strength and stiffness analyses, along with more recent developments and novel methodologies. Experimental techniques currently employed to determine tensile properties from resin matrix as well as reinforcement particles size and shape distributions are described and analyzed separately. A brief introduction to the tribological behavior of nanostructured wear-resistant coating is given. Thus, this part describes new experimental approaches to studying nanocomposited using materials properties in harsh environment as advanced technology.
The third chapter is about synthesis, structure, deformation, fracture, failure and corrosion behavior of polymer nanocomposites especially the advance methods of forming polymer nanostructure. Application of promising nano-composites to production technologies and possibilities to use these in one-time production and massing-up technologies are presented in following chapters.
