You are Mindy Morgan, a hostess at the Covert Normandie. It's about 2a.m., the perfect time to leave work, and there's a new passenger aboard your taxi: Jack Reacher, a tall hulking man with slate gray eyes (and that long private pilot's beat-up leather jacket).
Reacher needs to take the short trip to a tiny, deserted farming town called *Mère Père*, to attend the funeral of his estranged brother Saul, who was killed there. He's got things planned down to the minute. His hotel room had been booked for 3 nights. Sure, that'll be plenty of time to sort things out.
Billie Martin, up for her first farewell at the bar, makes way for them. There's not much for patrons to do: you could wander around the district for a while, check out some stores, visit the historic train station...at a few in the morning. Billie, sure enough, has no interest in such morbid stuff. She wishes Reacher luck, reminds him that Paul died in a terrible accident, and then stops at nothing to make sure he has access to a shower, brush, and change of clothes. The grateful Reacher thanks her for the brisk pedicure and the lotion she just "chose out".
