Trouble in Paradise? Michelle Celmer's novel is sure to charm readers worldwide with its hilarious and engaging love story and also offer plenty of perspective from a rare and stereotype defying viewpoint. The narrator in this novel leaves Nashville not for anywhere exotic like Los Angeles or even New York City (those are actually already booked as possible new locales in her head!); in fact she escapes Nashville to—Paradise, Colorado! It's hours north and an hour and a half west of Denver and borders Utah. At 1,198 square miles it had a population of 25,674 in 2010. Unfortunately, that means that for at least 30 (and probably more) years, small town girl, Reilly Eckardt has found it difficult to get a taxi to town or a gourmet donut from Cracker Barrel to truly embrace the title 'paradise'. Instead, she determines to survive by earning enough cash to climb out of Paradise before finding herself bearing the brunt of her growing affection for bar owner's single father and manager Joe Miller. Helen Zelin describes this sidekick so well, "nor does he need money now; he hardly needs to work. He owns a man-made lake, a few horses, and a general store. Its stock includes beer, whiskey, scotch, vodka, gin, rum, bourbon, port, sherry, wine, mirin, sake, champagne, and Kool aid.
