Two independent scientific studies revealed that women find men more attractive with a guitar in their hands.
Both studies were published in the journals Psychology of Music and Letters on Evolutionary Behavioral Science.
The first study, conducted by specialists from the University of South Brittany in France (Université de Bretagne-Sud), included an experiment involving one volunteer - a young man of good appearance.
His task was to stop 300 young women on the street, compliment each of them and ask for a phone number.
At the same time, he turned to 100 strangers, holding a guitar in his hands.
He tried to tie an acquaintance with another hundred women with a sports bag in his hands.
And with empty hands, he turned to another 100 women. As a result, in the first case 31% of women gave their phone number to a young man.
14% of strangers agreed to give their mobile number to a volunteer when he was not holding anything.
And only 9% of women gave their number to a guy with a sports bag. Researchers from the Israel’s Ruppin Academic Center have created two accounts on the Facebook social network.
On one of them they posted a photo of an attractive young man with a guitar, on the other - a photo of the same guy, but without a guitar.
Then, on behalf of this person, the researchers sent friendship proposals to 100 unmarried girls.
So, answers to 14 out of 50 requests for friendship were positive when the guy was in the photo with a guitar.
And only 5 out of 50 girls agreed to be friends with a young man without a guitar. Researchers later repeated the experiment, but this time a woman with a guitar was depicted in the photo.
It is interesting that the presence of a guitar did not affect the degree of attractiveness of a woman in the eyes of men to whom offers of friendship were sent.
Thus, the guitar in the hands enhances only male attractiveness. So far, none of the scientists can say for sure why men with a guitar seem more attractive.
However, French researchers suggest that women believe that men who play the guitar have more developed intellectual and physical abilities.
