In today's world, many people turn to technology to express their opinions, yet they don't realize that it does not allow for an emotional response like body language and a person's voice. Therefore, while Tess struggles with feeling that she cannot trust her fiancé, the author seamlessly interweaves discussions from Tess, her parents, and various people in her life. All the interactions show that sometimes in our world a person may sense things before they are verbally expressed.
