“L'infinito” is a collection of twenty-one poems by Giacomo Leopardi which are all interconnected and fully integrated into a single whole, The majority of these poems reflect Leopardi's iconoclastic thought that we owe no allegiance to the customs of mediaeval Europe and that there should be no mere imitation but an artist's ethics rather than a sacrament. Leopardi, a contemporary of Parnaso's and a close comrade in the arc and antipodes, pursued the path of the ancients though it took him to Doliche, and accessed the happiness of genius through every kind of artistic enterprise.
