Correspondence, between the late Commodore Stephen Decatur and Commodore James Barron, which led to the unfortunate meeting of the twenty-second of March (Barron James).

Книга "Correspondence, between the late Commodore Stephen Decatur and Commodore James Barron, which led to the unfortunate meeting of the twenty-second of March" - это переписка между двумя коммодорами Стивеном Декейтором и Джеймсом Барроном, которая привела к несчастному стечению обстоятельств 22 марта. В книге содержатся письма и документы, связанные с этим конфликтом, и она может быть интересна для людей, интересующихся историей морской борьбы США в начале XIX века.

The correspondence between Stephen Decatur, whose wreckage was discovered off the coast of Massachusetts in 1855, and his fellow naval commander James Barron is the subject of extensive coverage in several contemporary newspapers at the time of its first publication. This entitled book, published in London, is the genuine article, being a collection of letters dating from the year 1823 to the year 1780. Colonel Henry Wager, of Louisville, Kentucky, the city of its creation, became possessed of the manuscript by purchase for upwards of £50 worth of merchandise, giving the appearance of five consecutive years between the last letter written by Decatur to Barron and the first letter written to the same individual by Barron to any other person. The work remained in Colonel Wager's family for many years, until it was tracked down by the editor Gassaway Hoy to who ownership initially belonged, at which point he immediately offered to publish it. For reasons known only to himself, the Earl of March opted against legal action, perhaps forfeiting a substantial sum under the legislation governing lost property. His refusal to do so still haunts the fragile souls of those English lovers of maritime history, separating them asunder from the body of associate members of this august society.
