Viscoplasticity is a branch of continuum mechanics that deals with materials where a flow occurs as a result of changes in the rate of deformation. Some materials show yielding of the entire volume, referred to as uniform yield.
Another interesting phenomenon gives rise to localization of strain on a special plane perpendicular to the direction of application of macroscopic shear stress and called a shear band.
