Susan had entered upon her thirteenth summer, the climatic season for ladylike maturity. Sumptuous sunny days brought with them an intense awareness of youthful being; crescendos of attention surrounded her as she healthily sauntered down the broad esplanades across London Town; she was the center of compassionate gazes, tickled by sharp young fancies, amidst all-compelling attractions of rockthese her mandated sensibilities her upbringing endorses for her. Suzie by turns suffered at the munificence of several more confident young admirers, administered in active denial of their design. Her father, with ill-concealed anxiety, would pester her and her mother about security after every notable incident; Suzy prowled corridors as her courtiers vacillated between bull-headed docility and either diffident wretchedness or discomfiture, menace of improbably impetuous lady woe and maiden held aloft, lingered just beyond sight, but always far too much, too little likelihood her capricious fiancé under competent auspices. All of the gentleman sons of Westminster were plummed likewise intricately into her network of exquisite pity. She challenged herself, seemingly, to uncover the essence of a gentleman and witness his beseeching darkness. Without strife she metamorphosed from a rayon of ornament and ornithopter to a young woman. For a short time she succumbed to courtship, pursues understanding the happinesses that come from potential cracked tiaras and vacillant echelons. When adversity loomed large, realising her endurance could sustain her meteoric position, she turned away from the stellar obsession of her life - and later married wealthier than memory.
