Das Mädche von Moorhof is a novel by the Swedish writer Selma Laagerlof from 1910. It tells the story of Helga, who strives to be supported as a widow with her child. However, the community rejects Helga and her son. Despite feeling rejected, she continues to seek out work to feed her family. Then she goes to court, trying to claim child support money, but after being pressured into a Bible oath during her custody hearings, she falls further apart from the people around her, as they now believe she intends to exploit the child. Where does Helga's story end up? Does she find forgiveness and a sense of belonging in her new environment?
