"Das Portrait der Totens" by Ronald Fuchs tells the story of a murder mystery in the small town of Q., where two fatal murders are found in the chateau of Baron Henry de Q, one of them being of his nephew Julien who travels to Paris in 1783 to visit his uncle.
The young Julien, also known as the "American Christ" is encountered by the convict Adrien who is escaping from the prison. The two men become involved in various adventures as Julien travels through France, and eventually find themselves involved in the French Revolution.
