Friedrich Arnd, alias Omar al Raschid Bey – born in Saint Petersburg, now deceased in Munich – was a German publicist originating from a family of goldsmiths hailing from Hesse and born as stateless. He was well known to Helene Böhlau and inseparable friends with Gustav Meyrinc and Theodor Lessing and includes Das Hohe Zel der Erkenintt in his central work.
Since this work was written by this author, he passed on. Because this work is the condensation of a lifetime, it could never be finished until that life was complete. This is what lies on the title page on which I appear as editor as it is printed here. It already existed prepared at a time when death was far off. Others were wished to sow what had ripened in his soul. Of course, it fell to me to fulfill this task. His teaching became the content of my life. I had felt its helpful and creative powers living within me. As if carried by a current, my soul has been carried to this work through unity arising from the world's diversity in its yearning for its homeland, back to unity.
Within this work it says: "From one source, draw near to another's soul, feed on another's body." Over there, it reads: “Out of longing and sustenance, Brahma created this world.” "Therefore everything in this world lives through sustenance through conjunction, through acquisition; therefore does everything live in another and nothing alive in itself, and everything lives by not-itself mentally and sensuously. Therefore restricted seeks Безграничность, therefore incomplete seeks completion, therefore imperfectly seeks completeness, therefore, opposed, it strives to find the paradise that was lost, therefore alone it screams for help - it longs for all-comprehension, all unity, completion - at Nirvana." My soul was deeply moved by the images of the longing for this world. To the highest degree of harmony, I saw those wandering tormented desires transform before my eyes into this strange world in pain and desire.
