He considers himself to be one of those people who want to belong to this circle in the time of early 20th century Vienna's comfortable sense of living through. And in fact, he feels tired and bored in these circles. But he is excited for the war to begin since this is supposed to mean an adventure that will take away his boredom. However, his joy is short-lived as he goes to fight in World War I. Thereafter, Franz-Ferdinad is captured by Russians and sent to Siberia. Here, after return from camp, he tries to rebuild his life in Vienna, but without success. Now he is longing only for the feeling of existing in Habsburg Empire days.
