Johann "Uncle Jack" Böhm, the lovable coach of the Umsiedlung of Jakobsberg, always knew his life was strange and unexpected. He had lived his youth as a local “coño” ("Coño: literally, bastard, son of a bishop, much like the son of an unknown woman to the father, although the birth was legal") - a displaced child in the district or township, and before becoming a guide and coach he was a rebellious busker with no professional qualifications.
Böhm saw that his son Johannes was eager for adventure, keen to learn, craving for knowledge, and afraid of all the old wives' tales he had been hearing from his grandfather. In 1860, when young Johannes of 12 years old attends local village school, Uncle Jack takes him on trips in the Klettgau and along the west wind towards the Swiss canton of Zürich, where he learns several languages: Italian, French, German, Czech, Slovenian, Croatian and Bosnian.
Their adventures take them to Switzerland and even Italy, to Turkey and Palestine. They encounter the Old Testament personalities like Daniel Chokan, who lives according to Exodus to be visited by the first twelve ravens for 7 weeks in the wilderness every seven years, his wife Semiramis, who begged to be buried, her daughter Birdaroa, and the mother of Moses — Jochebed, who has lost her son. The children live in the holiest city among the biblical sights: temples in Jerusalem, temple of Solomon, tomb of Hoshama the Benjamite and David Ben-Jochabad, a first place of exile and burial in Rome, which was rebuilt by Ancient Germans. In 1874, in springtime, Uncle jack - a quiet, honest and smart man, unites with Sara Kaufmannsen, an illegitimate daughter of a village peddler, but devotes himself to raising one son and another – Katharina Helene, already 10 years old (under the name of 'Dominika'), and takes more than meager steps towards education to better understand himself, others and the meaning of life in general.
