Benito's working class hero or Frauke from then, by Hans Wienrich
This book is about the problems of middle class people who struggle to get through life. The story begins with a small call that triggers Benito, who works as a computer department head in Hamburg. One of his old friends asks if he can visit his sick friend who is in the hospital. He tries to recall if it was really Frauke who he visited all those years ago, but as many things in his life are changing, Benito gradually realizes the importance of remembering more about her and their friendship. In his new age, a strong revulsion to the working class took place and he felt himself isolated from the rest of the workers. His job became stressful and his business relationships went down into the pit. Nevertheless, his early friendship with Frauke proved to be the only light between darkness. She pointed out his moral weaknesses and stuck by him during difficult times despite his feelings of superiority. Unfortunately, she had her own troubles and after both of them were gone to work separately, it seemed they had lost the mutual affection.
