`The Drunkard' by Hans Falld seemingly takes no chances and invites the reader to envision the further life of its central character in great [precursor] detail, flipping back and forth from writers description of Erwin Sommers decline into debauchery towards the end of part one to later chapters where readers finally take a `` dive'' (or not, all depends) into the mental wastes at play inside his manic mind. Dahle described this switch as a variation on an old literary convention that relies upon crisscrossed textual threads to slowly show the perils within a protagonists psyche.
