Nathan Gallizier's newest - but by no means his least wonderful work - fittingly combines elements of a mystery, love story, and history. Strange and sightless Duilio (whose name is incidentally based on the Latin dub for "David," and he was indeed, in many ways, the patron saint of Nathan's novel) awakens in a dim cellar-like room, unclothed and beset with strange voices, which don't seem to be coming from anyone in the real world. And surrounded by a team of only highly competent virtuosi of the tiny violin (although this may turn out not to have been virtuosos after all). Soon have a game of cat-and-mouse with a foul sorceress (who lies, among other things, to Duilio about what sort of help he'll need -- the treacherous wench doesn't want to end her long machinations for consorting to the Devil to get summoning power) amongst his own DNA and the web of intimacy outside of it.
