Northanger Abbey включает в себя глубокую и эмоциональную историю, которая рассказывает о жизни главной героини - Анны Норта

«Northanger Abbey» is the story of a young woman who visits the remote country home of her so called friends, where she experiences the lives of genuine idiots, and makes new friends who happen to be eccentric liberals, rather than prudes.\nAlthough this novel was published in 1817, it doesn't treat on its own sex objectionably.\nMuch is made of the temporary invalidity of Sir Walter, whose sole task as a medical matter is to give the impression that his illness is due to overeating, not to fainting, though when he is found prostrate at the bottom of the front steps, his daughters have the appearance of not knowing what to do with him next, except shut themselves indoors and turn on the gas.\nSuch scenes were commonplace enough in polite society at the time.\nSome critics might see this as prelude to the painful changes in early Victorian feminism, but the Kate Hughes version does cause us to notice one linguistic difference: Jane Austen describes "the парк целиком зарос деревьями и густым кустарником", but shows no concern for the attendant brushwood until the necessary vehicle arrives; a euphemism or two are presumably evoked by Hughes
