"Fidibus and the Gem of Venus" by Denise Remigouier is an intriguing novel set in the eleventh century in Germany. A barrel of precious wood disappeared from its mysterious channels in 956 and Burgler Fidius, on a trip to the Rhine valley to investigate, encountered Lara, an ambitious novice nun who had an irresistible attraction to him. Because of her connection with Fidus, Lara becomes included in Fidius' entanglement with a maid and a knight, and later conspires with Fiduas to steal gold from the city's mint.
