If you're not familiar with the DSA universe, this is a word-smithing exercise in overloading words on surfaces: it's about two mega-corporations warring about an advertising cache and transport firm; smuggling companies and cartels colliding and along the way causing mass devastation on the island of Castelia; a melee of human versus alien beings and a mercenary squadron called "Black Eagles" who seem to become involved as angry bumps in the road. Similarities to Dune abound in its complexities and political wrangles -- only set in the Second Life world. Maybe Jodemann, the author, takes after Hermann Hesse when it comes to writing his byzantine stories -- but realized, as were the BOOKS by Hesse (not to mention the rich tapestry of Tagline Soup available), his creations are successful more like novels that also engage the gamut of people and themes that second life covers. And oh, did I mention that this universe is also voiced by Richard Bach and Ted Lawson, Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry O'Connell and Samuel Jackson? Where else can you find such sharp writing and wacky roles performed by the unlikeliest of faces? Like Hesse, Jodermann leaves us wanting more: perhaps a sequel to the story comes into fruition in time for the 10th anniversary of SecondLife!
