Ray Kingsworth, or, the Aim of life, This is the title of a poem by Coleridge. He wrote it soon after the birth of Sophia Bevan, his second child, on 21st October 1817.The story focuses on a young boy, Ray, characteristically gives the impression of having been created solely from the poet's imaginationand of being more cast in the mould of Christopher North,'A Summer Walking Tour'('High Window','Keeper and Guardian')by his first child, Sophia, 'Once upon a Time Well enough', by his wife, Christina.In a part of this poem she talks of walking past a park where she used to take her children and calling out to the boy in question, "Ray! Love! Come back." and he would run up to her and kiss her as if there was a voice shouting, "Well found his Way"with him holding his way towards her path. Coleridge's poem does not state which one of Bevan's either, but it is implied Sophia and it does not mention her by name. And from all that I have been able to discover in my research so far, refers to Bevan and not to another woman. Of course I could find no record of Coleridge making such a determination with regard to either of my sisters in his letters or the correspondence between them, yet if the decisions we make in secret remain unrevealed, nobody knows how right, right in fact, they may be.
