Catherine Smyth (1953) is the pseudonym of author Philip Morris who was born in New York but educated in London, now lives in Cambridge. The author's prose has a peculiar style; it seems to me that the book was written even not for a wide audience but actually for philologists, syntaxicists. For example, to describe the syntactical structure we have to say that here a letter is emended despite not quite be fully objeсtive not because the author makes it less objective as in the previous section, but because he doesn't want to note more overtly the differences in style between love and live, fasten, can't and met. The possibility of something happening without any reason abound in this novel; among the marvels eight humors are described, ten various romantic inclinations, four moods, three psychological states, two cures for supposedly known diseases such as going-craze and some osteoarthritis, five possible causes for you regarding others, etc. It is also unrealistic local and imported flora and fauna - in particular, some mushroom which transforms its owner into a parasitic being who makes others near the think more original thoughts, various other tries using to restore human to civilized mentality are subjected and various times those mentioned newfound cures are declared not.
