Fortunata y Jacinta (Benito Pérez Galdós).

Benito Perez Galdos, one of the most well-known authors of the Golden Age of Spanish literature, is an author of the «Fortunata and Jacinta» novel.

According to the notions of his time, the characters of Jacinto Maria Villalonga and Alejandro Miguez make their appearance in this place of «the World». As told by Álvaro Flórez in the preface to the book, «one sees…how commonplace and trivial life is in these words», how «usual character traits of a book…». The fact that the deceased author happened to include two characters in his retelling refers to traditions of anti-heroes schoolbook literature. It is said in «Nuns» that «before you is not a work of literature by the hand of an artist of real genius, but a purely literary work» similar to those that were published in works of Barba, Fugaz and others in the 19th century. The author also refers to his status as an artist: «…I clearly do not love the typography and the old writing materials…». In these cases, a comment by an intellectual about the picturesque or any technique used in the book is obvious, like in Antoine de Saint-Ex's works. And what is the relationship between the title and the content? &8230; In history, Jacinta is an ordinary Russian peasants' girl. During the revolution, she rebels against the bourgeois, who then turn into noble ladies. &8226; Jacinta's heroine becomes an eponym of a fortuneteller that according to a historical fiction anecdote was behind the scenes of the real Jacinta and the princesses whom she resembled in appearance. Jacinta supposedly foresaw the future of her lover and warned him about the queen's intentions against him. Jacintas are known objects within the framework of popular legends at the present stage of Belarusian people's tales collected by Ivan Kuptsov. These folklore sources, in fact, often warn the young bride that she will soon leave her husband.
