The protagonist, Pia, is a successful businesswoman who lives a comfortable life with her loving husband and teenage son. But everything changes when her best friend, Hannah, begins acting strangely and threatens to tell Pia's secret - that she and her husband had an affair ten years ago.
Hannah can't understand why Pia wouldn't want to come out about their affair, as she'd thought it would be the best thing for Pia to do. So she urges Pia into confessing to the affair before threatening a public disclosure if she doesn't come clean. After Pia rejects the idea, Hannah turns her attention on Pia's family.
This is when things spiral out of control, and Pia realizes that nothing she says will bring back the innocent life she once knew. Instead, all she can do is find sanctuary while her whole world is destroyed.
