It tells the story of a young man Fuzzy Cane who leaves his small coastal town to New York, getting into difficulties on the road, having countless fights with the representatives of the law and then ending up in Naval Academy. Fuzzy finds himself in the middle of great adventures on ship Vulture, captain of which is his old friend, John Lamar Powell, son of a state representative from Connecticut. For their freedom they have to hide a goldfish cassette. Both sweet Mayerling (Mary Had A Lamb) and Peter (Blue Peter) have found in "A Goldfish" good versatility in rendering maritime life, while the introduction of Sleepy Time on board the fighters becomes an effective literary counterweight to several times marked romanticism of the novel as a whole.
