That's where lies the magic of her storytelling. AUTHOR PORTRAITS Anne Karine was born in 1938 near Valsøyfyrd in Nordmor Norway. She worked as a teacher until she published her first novel in 1976. Elstads is known as one of the most successful authors of Norway together with Gaarder. Back home, she was so popular that she caused headlines whenever she just submitted a manuscript to a publisher. Her books are bestsellers in Norway and sell over a million copies. She has received numerous awards for her books. In 2003 and 2007, among other things, she received the Norwegian Readers' Prize. Elstaal died on April 4, 20
