Originally announced as Inheritance (Dark Tides Press), the original back cover correctly mentions Amy Blankensship being the author but includes no mention of crime. But Blankenship packed enough suspense into this interesting tale to satisfy any reader who enjoys her genre - and dare the suspenseful double plotline. Cleverly structured, A Guardian's Possessions lets us watch Harrington's transformation from matter-of-fact city chef to killer for hire…while we watch inspectors dangle crime suspects in front of Harrington and see how they pounce. At different stages of its exploration, readers might wonder if everything will make sense, despite the thrown-together psychic connections between parallel storylines intertwining crime generation and fatal standoffs. The crisp sense of location and color in the descriptions, particularly of Gideon's bar/restaurant, works to keep our eyes glued the all the elements needed to be thrilling. We learn a lot about Harrington during the course of the story, which definitely limits shock value when it ends, though once those loose ends get tied up, it stays on the mind.
