The book describes the life of Sarah Lennox, a school teacher who finds herself in a difficult situation after finding out she is pregnant. She is forced to find a way to support herself and her baby without the help of her fiancé, who turns out to be a jerk and leaves her alone.
She decides to go to Firefly Glen, a quiet small town where she used to enjoy a great time with her friends. But upon arrival, she finds out that Sheriff Parker Tremane, a friend of hers, is handling upheavals in the town, even when she is alone and desperate.
Sarah couldn't avoid becoming intrigued by Parker, although he could almost force her to forget that she is a single pregnant mother with limited resources. Somehow, he wins her over his strong, masculine appeal while simultaneously challenging her independence and inspiring her to move forward in life.
It turns out this friendship could possibly become more than just a casual romantic one. At the same time, it is getting increasingly evident that Sarah's existence itself is threatened by her uncontrollable circumstance. It teaches us a lot about the obstacles that women face in real life in spite of the wonderful illustrations giving many possible paths the story could be taking.
