Synopsis:
Christine, a posh parole officer for teenage felons, has travelled a long way to Northern California to spend quality time with her fiance, ex-lawyer Danny at his cabin, "Widow's Hearth", located on the headwaters of the Cascade Mountains. As she settles in, however, she becomes convinced that something sinister is lurking in the cabin's past, triggering strange visions and her mind becoming unsettled.
As the day finally draws to a close, Christine must stand up to the night terrors which have haunted "Widow’s cabin" and why she is chosen as the final victim of their savage revenge from hell with the knowledge that in less than 24 hours the madness that has engulfed her will be her undoing.
Ruth Hodge, a widow who has come to live in a "widow's cabin" as a means of escape from the outside world (and finding happiness as an aromatherapist), is cast into turmoil when her strongest friend is found murdered almost within days of her new venture. Ruth's story begins and ends at the very cabin where her future awaits; it also becomes a death trap for Ruth as well as four other strangers contaminated by a sinister secret – a serial killer named Kenneth Nasco Inside. L. G. Davis' complete nine-hour audiobook version of Ruth Hodge's captivating "The Widow'S Cabin" is both stirring and suspenseful well worth seeking out. "Eerily reminiscent of Stephen King, Christopher Pike, and Tess Gately" (AudioFile) L.G Davis (who definitely has an ear for good, compelling prose) creates a compelling, page-turning tale that will have you feeling impossibly frustrated that you weren't there the moment Ruth first turned to the cabin door. It's a tale with sweeping and intricate intrigue, where nothing is what it seems, and the consequences of one woman's lies are seen to unfold with horrifying consequences and an entire string of frightening events. Not since Mary Higgins Clark and Patricia Cornwell have I been sucked into such a riveting, raw, and claustrophobic tale. And its ending..Well _, It leaves you with a kicking brick of a cliffhanger. + A plot that promises to engross the listener but ties a pitch-black cloak of mystery over the remaining seven hours (spoiler alert _). Is it all a fruitful maze or a net? (+ A close reading of the full, 9-hour book Otis Collver gives the unabridged version the edge over a brisk audiobook summary A sound track of voices and ambient sounds create a rich tapestry that's suffused with character (Marietta Devantez). A voice actor straight from the pages of King or Lily Rabe leaving you in the rude, incredible bliss you never expected after hanging on every sentence. Absolutely bingeable. From a debut author working to break free from nostalgia and boredom, L.G Davies ninth-hour offering is neither a heady fantasy nor the dulcet sigh of nostalgia". Yes, Riverhead's definitive audiobook of "The Widows Cabin" packs it full of adrenaline, innumerable twists, sustained suspense, unexpected turns, needed character drama, complex plot threads, reflexive pacing; you'll forget to eat and drink during your darkened marathon listening of 9 hours. Whether its "Pendragon's Musings" or missions through crime and pure suspense. Jonathan Masters (creator of the Sherlock series) wrapped this up from Riverhead with thoughtfulness, care, gravitas, and penchant for truly making you question everything. Sounds and sounds right off an Alfred Hitchcock screenplay strike you raw and hard in all the right spots. An atmosphere evokes genuine terror as if in deference to Wallace Swan and Robert Littell's wondrous terror novels and they their own penchant for normless biblical mystery. Sweet spooky auditory feast L.G has it down pat to build tension then drive you wild with suspense and intrigue. Feels like Hoffman is really around zig-zagging the hallways of these intense visions. Thoughts, especially for early readers of Anybody Did It?" and analyzing mind, get ready to revisit and reanalyze Ruth and Kenny's connection and motivations and choose sides as you work through all potential scenarios and methods of discovery and traps set by both literary detectives. With a final explosive climax and intuitive ending, these nine hours leave you speechless and inexplicably swamped with a box of emotions still loose in your soul. Can we say "A True Book Tucker"? (in honor of Catherine Couloumbis of Tuckerman AudioBooks). Not that anyone has "True Book Tucker" out there in the wild, but this hasn't even touched the surface about how much I loved and adored hearing this in its entirety — a tedious Hamilton schoolteacher assignment elevated into poetry. This book has me, before I even finished it, envisioning a Hollywood film that would make Nicole Kidman look like dingbatmentals,"Winning A Thriller" and "Another Naomi Cates-esque Claw-Snatching Champ Revealed" aren't empty compliments either—"road map for hella hit TV series"—this is more racy than Perkins calculus all wrapped up in captivating, engrossing entertainment. If you appreciated the Lotis Series humid with plot snarls I can absolutely give this the kind of benediction you sought in "a definitive version" of psychological suspense like James Patterson &Karen Robards MacLean made famous. Simply put, this is a must-listen across all platforms. Like the vastness of space before our eyes unveiling the never-before-seen—and just as often surprising and revelatory—as L.G advances deeper into this hotchpotch, this captivating challenging story. No one will be left on the sideline to tell this tale in their own way. It Oozes Entertainment L.G may have limited herself to just 9 ghastly glorious hours but shell packed every ounce of intrigue in that bottle like they said in organic chemistry class, with pure sincerity. Davis whips up an acute cocktail of scrutiny, suspense, violence, morally uneasy harbinging unknowns, and well-crafted writing that takes the thriller template and lite some tinder under it. Even though the finale isn't finished and envisioned fully in reviews and blurb copy, it's one heck of an alive bird and "ever climactic finish" won't make you scramble for the dictionary to define your stupor. "High key recommend giving this a go" Not only a powerful and utterly addicting maximal generalization, psychologically and physically implausible for your introvert soul, But absolutely the real deal perfect for any prepper kit.
