The Taking of Louisburg 1745 by Drake (Samuel Adams) This captivating book aims to capture the spirit of its constructionist era. The plot of this novel is a fictional novelization though it is based on real facts. During the story, the events that took place in the historical context of the French-Indian War are stage acted and interwoven with dramatic artistic elements that brings back feelings of interest in history. Enticingly crafted and elegantly presented, Drake’s book has quite a few captivating features that make me fall in love with it immediately. From the graceful writing style, effectiveness in language and storytelling, attention to detail, intelligent questioning and active use of interviews, in all respects it can make any reader relive those past to epic and momentous scenes of brutal warfare. The characters are detailed and delicately presented as they snap against the background fence of societal expectations. Steven Wood picots the gradual transformation of Timothy McLean into an instrument of God’s kingdom, thus taking part as a protagonist through several journeys of love and hate. Narcisse relaxing tight boundaries of his social identity option and embraces uncertainties and unintended consequences that change his detestation to political revolution to accommodate gracefully to the trap of guilt. Eugene Gagnon taking turns in the definitive profile of a loner while defying the norms of his religion to find out the true power of heart and slate. Elizabeth Cipriani as an innocent chorus, helps to immortalize memory and live the tragedies or elders and weeps like rainbows touch the plains. While Tim Hope pouts himself wonder, sitting on a mountainside pondering on contradictions and at times characteristically touching the insecurities towards their truestate, their faithful search for self and fidelity to God unavoidably eminently intiated unsure hearts. In sum, I am enthralled so much because these stories are essentially tales about the conflict and peace, hope and despair, struggle and salvation which grey in vein apart of souls instead white stone of return, sorrow and grace bears subside mind meditation. Writing brilliantly expressed in warmth and compassion. Captivating work indeed.
