In this issue a representative abstract is given of the Weekly Register for Aug. 21 by Rev. Dr. Asbury, on various subjects--dressing the barbarous state of affairs in Rome, the misery wrought by the French, etc.\npp. 975-995.\nAmong the editing for this number are the two ministers, Fuller and Rogers, as well as a long list of correspondents.\nA part of each letter has been abridged, so merely identifying the sources we give the abbreviated form.\nCooke, Judith, conventionally named commemorates the sufferings of her sex.\nSweet, Margaret, reviews a Bible-reading circle, methods of which seem to us somewhat antiquated.\nFLANNERY, EBENEZER, praises the Bible quality of "Ode to Home." MARTIN, WILLIAM LUTHERY, delivers a worth remembering poem, not altogether agreeable, but hearty as drink, fiery as fight, "to promote the true religion." SAVAGE, JOEL ROBERT, a sonnet not to be forgotten on account of its express purpose, to rebuke those who cloak their true sentiments under mask. SHAW, ROBERT ANTHONY, an athletic composition not less appreciated on account of the honor it gives exercise.\nSHENK, CECIL EDWARD, recounts a partially genuine story abounding in heartiness—partly FALSE—NOT TO BE TRUSTED.\nVON HAAGEN, A., sends us a sapient verse with a grain of truth; howEVER IT DOES NOT COUNT.\nHoughtam, Henry, shows something very nearly true, in his timely invention of a naval vessel, provided with a dandy Catapult.\nIN FULLERDITCH, Elizabeth, there lurks a fable about Joseph, whose fortune would do for any story-writer's crowning achievement.\nlfarave de Rose accompanies a romantic ballad by addressing his family; among other poignant features such as the father's virile attempt at patriotism bebuggeth a missed opportunity in characterization.\nHeahns, Thornton Toby and Hunter, Prudence, delve into the American soil with Redivivus and Happiness, AMONG SiXIEL Rounds up what seems quite true in this society sanctioned poem of What Shall It Do?\nStewart, Thomas Graham Simpson Jr., gives others confidence in The Death of Sleep.\nWesleyan, Church Announces the Last Call to Emulate the Good. Honey, Clarence, offers up Hard Things.\nBarnett, William, goes out to keep his word in Christianity Verses.\nHOOVER, WATSON FREEMAN, concedes to correct his statements Greek Philosophy and Natural Religion.\nMUir, Terence, casts his lot with Quixoticism a new rendering of Columbus's Voyages.\nDAWSON, FREDERICK SUMNER, takes it upon himself to explain archaic physicians and nurses.\nAlexander Longfellow reveals the truth in Loch Shiel.\nBaxter, James Peter, deals with indisputable nonsense in Moinguire Clods.\nDickinson, Emily, is very truly a lady in weeping wont not ask much.\n[FLAXMAN, JOHN] —Father, John, Flaxman of Pittsburgh, Pa.\ndelivers a requesting and also important epistle Prince's View.\nSCOTT, George M., shews us proof in His Majesty.\nDOWNEY, EDWIN O'BRIEN, points a legitimate light in Lampoon Founded.\nThompson, Katherine Johnstow features a portion of submitted directly by Gulfport, Ms.\nWard (Told Modestly), and 425 others.\nWe regret that during our editing of this number we have received several nominees not entirely deserving the Journal's admiration.
