"The Joyous Adventures of Aristide Pujol" - это книга, написанная Уильямом Дж.
Depends upon your definition of funny, of course. Locke's comic genius often works by introducing a rather absurd and extreme form of behavior in otherwise seemingly respectable characters. I say "usually", because the humor is narrated with enough subtle grace not to become caricatures; that would make it simply ridiculous. It's clear that whichever literary model created the master parodist's style--be it Grandma Moses, Saki, or someone still unknown--assuredly had a sense of humor about them. The adventures of archeologist Aristide Puol roll into the pages of this novel with such comic force that only a few moments then spend immersed within its pages is enough to transform that feeling well up into laughter. And you won't have all that much trouble translating that picurrismo into English: It's just like if someone decided to merrily explain to us the hilarious antics taken by a Whataburger mascot or Mayor McCheese, only instead of a cartoon character we find ourselves engaged in the adventures of a realhistristico who finds himself chasing plagues in ancient Egypt, screaming for mantises to take leave of their silly habit of forming skyscrambles, trying to determine why gnomes ca n't adopt ordinary dogs to be their constant companions and hitting pay dirt when uncovering a famous archaeological find that turns out to have been an earthquake cover-up because it exposed an aging pope to the public eye in a compromising light.Readers familiar with certain classics from authors such as Mark Twain, Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra or John Gay may (or perhaps may not) find a similar yet subtly different playfulness concealed away among the words in these pages. They will, however, also find a tale about mythmaking, ancient history and the importance of human ingenuity, as Quol attempts to prove age-old tales about lost continents right or wrong, while alternating between dispatches back home and the depths of the earth, where, at one point, his investigations lead him to an ancient benevolent Indian presence that happens to have resided underground since 1500s England was the King's personal stomping realmI tell this because, ultimately, it's what'll keep the laugh in your joints intact during the course of these seven adventures. If the mind is what the human body can do, I think Mr. Locke will grin back from those (Vermiform?) Bankruptcy transcripts and allow us to share a few chuckles along the way.
