The final book, Barry Loser's Ultimate Book of Keelness delves deeper into Barry's psyche and explains in some detail why he prefers fun, adventurous activities over school work. Jim Smith began writing the series after a chance meeting with a traveling school teacher while making fish sticks at a dockside pier in Sussex. The following year a copy of his book "the Sea Around Us" was chosen as the winner of the prestigious Roald Dahl "Funny Prize". Other author pursuits include designing cards and playing cards to RSC productions and living life in Scotland as a freelance illustrator. It remains unclear if or where the novelty will continue beyond the Barry franchise.
