One night, following a dinner out, Stacie walks into his office to find him sleeping with another girl. In apparent disgust and approval from his colleague, he throws her out in the street at the end of July. Her voice overcryed out loud after wailing with tears 'I trust at least he cared for me', perhaps this is the peak of sadness or the depth of happiness she will ever feel about her previous relationship. With the help of her sister Katy she makes it her life's utmost goal to take back her self-esteem and get away from her past desperations. She majorly seeks refuge in the library and other available resources to fortify herself upon this untimely loss of love and deciphering all that goes on in a bachelor's mind. Readers are left with much to digest in the ending that does make their hearts bleed, and then perhaps feel a stronger and more potent bonding with the protagonist through this heartstring stabbing climax. It is a powerful read, especially if you have been in a painful breakup, marital or otherwise. Moving as emotional nor serious. But the beautiful part is how candidly and succinctly Helen Rowland delivers her heart wrenching love story paying special attention to the changes experienced by the protagonist and with her poignant advice at the contemplation stage one might be able to avoid committing the same mistakes. As if at cross roads, with both choices repugnant Stacie decides to check in as a single woman with the guidance of her sisters, her friends and muses on feminist attitudes to come up as victorious and free again by acquiring an attitude in life enabling one take the initiative in all walks of life. The ultimate message comes a few pages into the end as Helen illustrates how for every dark night there's a brighter morning giving strength and meaning to live one's own life journey and helps readers find the experiences be blissful and successful in their own right instead of completely focusing on the tragic aspects of life and relationships.
