Preadjusted Edge-Wise Fixed Orthodontia Appliances
The aim of orthodontic treatment is the improvement of the dental aesthetics in order to resolve functional and social problems. Treatment Planning dictates the surgical and orthodontic approach to be taken. The surgical approach (expansive) is largely utilized to correct malocclusions and to establish a favorable surgical space for the retraction period. The orthodontics approach is mostly aimed at aligning the teeth for improved facial profile and smile aesthetics. A fixed orthodontic appliance is utilized to achieve this purpose. An edge-wise fixed orthodontia appliance is an obturator designed to compensate for face and masticatory defects/complications, due to either trauma or traumatic loss. It is generally indicated for dento-maxillary, mandibular and maxillomandibular abnormalities that include but not limited to: fractures, osteotomies, obturations, condylectomies, impactions.
