Perry Clifton "The Lady with the Black Lab" является частью так называемой "New York Trilogy" of Clifton's books.\nIt was first published in 1974 and narrated by Martin Ferrier, a NE New York Pre-crime Unit detective, assuring dope and suspenseful storylines.\nClifton made use of extensively material he gained during his six years span as New York mayor's spokesman for Negro Affairs, for he chose a black protagonist to expose the manners of crime and turmoils that were characteristic to African-Americans at the time and also to show his mayoral duties under his own eyes.\nMartin Ferrier is appointed to New York Police Department Special Crimes Units as it was tasked with tracking down their shared, alias Valerie Ciarlelli, a former stripper shunned by the other detectives due to her reputation.\nUpon her disappearance a prostitute found dead with no apparent signs of criminal assault were attributed to Ferrier and he gathered his team to unravel the events surrounding Valerie vanishing, all the while trying to find Valerie who turns out to be at fault for the very murder as she had earlier been connected to murders under her identity and involved in a racket involving drugs, smuggling, racketeering, bribery and even murder, putting her neck in extreme threat.\nThis had resulted in her taking a new identity after a name change and assuming her ring name, Miss Black Nancy.\nWolfgang Ecke comments with The Times (US) in 2013 that the book's themes about female empowerment and sexual fluidity was ahead of its time, and that, after the novel was written, LGBT rights activist came out and referenced it as the best coming out story.\nIn his lifetime, Clifton was known for his published works on section different subjects such as newspapermanodhisms, node lobbies and minorities groups. The author of ten novels, several short stories, plays and screenplays, Clifton focus on narrative genres influenced by various literary authors from the Crime Wave genre, Austen, Poe and the poetry of William Butler Yeats, He also wrote many socially conscious novels and would commonly seek out subjects experienced by underprivilege minority groups, typically women or minorities such as Vietnamese or Korean war veterans, or poorly off youth from a diverse range of backgrounds, less commonly minority gay couples but also metais being discussed such as lesbians or bisexual women. E ccke\'s review commentary suggested that "much of the background of the characters making up the New York Public pursued the same themes and clichés that dominated lifetime perceptions of gays, criminals and freaks". Critical assessment is not often offered of Clifton work due dates put its end after 28 years after his death in 1993.
