Once upon a time in a quiet forest, there lived a young Elf named Olaf. He dreamed of sailing the seas in a ship with sweeping sails.
Olaf went out into the forest in search of pines — the wood from which he planned to make the mast of his future ship. But the first tree was too big for a simple Elf, the second tree did not bend well, the third appeared to be rotten, and then Olaf actually walked into a pack of wolves. Olaf returned to his home much less hopeful than he had started.
"I'm not getting any pines," said Olaf sadly, "but I've made a new friend instead." Soon he found himself sitting at the kitchen table with Porridge-head, somewhere near Grandpa Mushroom, and Furball, his friend the kitten. Over supper, they chatted about what adventures they'd had during the day. Finally, exhausted from play and excitement, Olaf retreated with his three new friends to the garret, where he'd found a comfortable nest hidden away by some curtains. They crawled in together, huddled in their warm blanket. After some struggling (which usually happens in fairy tales), Olaf unwrapped the magical trick-or-treat bag Porridge-Head had handed him. "Chocolate!" he squeaked in delight, and the three friends ate themselves silly! After sharing the candy with his new friends, Olaf fell asleep blissfully wrapped in Furball's soft tail. And throughout the night, their growing friendship would dream of ever-brighter and more marvelous adventures. Of the time these wacky characters set out on a fun-filled sea journey with the aim of finding mushrooms for Grandpa Mushroom, a fiddle for Porridgehead and a journey home for the kitten whilst avoiding an array of entertaining obstacles.
