Jackie Brown's novella Mine Tomorrow takes place in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2007; Jacki Smith, the protagonist, lives in a small run-down Grenoid apartment making a dreary living by selling antiques. She works in Wisteria World, a nearby store most definitely filled with old junk – equally impeccable as the store of Beaton Brown, which she runs much to the disgust of not only her mother but also of Devan, her nanni. At least the latter would know, as they were together long enough and in love and separated by the passage of time as it vanishes like a cigarette smoke. The wood grain on the unfinished floors here is rich with history - dark and glowing with secrets. Discovering these through old photographs and little rumours Jacky spends many boring hours and sleepless nights in her dilapidated home before finding a sleeping beauty amongst those oceans of photographs and headed for Grenoid to live. No mystery no secrets here Jacky. A sad revelation leads her back to her and the second MC\'s first unrequited attraction, Kevin. Like all normal people devoid of magic, Jacky has fantasized about her boyfriends leaving her for a better reason but never quite had the courage to get lost in those imaginary shores, until the arrival of a TimeStone imbued with the power to transport her to any kind of period for any kind of duration. Her ambition to perhaps return to her mother and Dan and navigate her life again is dashed mercilessly only weeks before Dan comes by to visit her looking for it - a piece of jewelry that Jacky gifted to her Mom thirteen years earlier in exchange for a lesson in driving could prematurely lead him to Victor. At this point in the novel, the confusion between good and bad Jacky enters tale for all time plaguing hers.
