"Lurchi and His Friends: Volume 6-Lurchi And His Friends At The Farm" by Sybille Angela Anger is a collection of stories that tell the story of Lurchi, a young boy who lives on a farm with his grandparents and friends.
The book consists of six stories. In the first story, "A Cat Named Lurchi", Lurchi falls in love with a cat named Skaibole, but her owner, a white shoemaker, does not allow them to be together, as he fears that they might contaminate his skin. In "Lunch," Lurchi has a disastrous lunch in which he wears a dirty sweater on top of his clean jacket. In "No Swimming!" Lurchi decides to swim in the lake when no one is looking, though all swim is prohibited due to the possibility of salmonella infection. In "Behind the Kiosk," our beloved cat shows up at Lurchi's kiosk eating donuts, and everyone else assumes that it is bad luck. Finally, in "The Cow Pong," Lurchi discovers that a cow plays ping-pong, which is surprising for a woman and a goat. The end of "To Be Continue" is a tophat-building competition between Lurch and his father. Ultimately, "Two Hours After," the book closes with Lurch's father leaving their home in search of a new life. This series of short tales, written from the point of view of a six-year-old girl, explores themes of childhood, nature, friendship, obedience, responsibility, imagination. This volume is for children and their parents, teachers, psychologists, family physicians, and others who want to understand how an inner world of the child depends on what is happening around him, or her, and why it happens.
