However, a certain set of submissive readership values is also encouraged. Not only does writing about a situation like this facilitate a range of sexual emotions, it does so by organizing emotional reactions through concepts that have become part of social commentary and public discussion. By talking about "the power dynamics", "the borderlands" - territories that simultaneously constitute explicit and implicit liminal zones between ordinary and embarrassing situations - the book strategically prods the reader into complex systems of privileged and marginalizing power relations. It does so through language, rhetorical techniques, erotic suspense and countless embodied encounters fused together into one melting pot: much of the language used in this text enacts cultural tropes about power, identity and performance.
