"Ich weiss nur that ich hab dich lieb", by Denise Hunter. The novel begins with the protagonist Lucy reflecting on her pre-wedding day, and how she was supposed to be getting married to a different man. Her current fiancé, Zach, had cheated on her, leading them to separate a year ago. But then suddenly, they are reunited at a truck stop, only for Lucy to find out that she and Zach had broken up completely, and he didn't want anything to do with her. Needless to say, this is quite a shock for Lucy, as she takes time to process it all and sort out her feelings. Focusing back on Zach she tries to reconcile with him, but finds out that she's unhappy with their relationship because she'd fallen in love with another man during their separation. All this to lead up to a discussion about Lucy's desire to remember who her true love is and what she wants for both her life and her future marriage.
This is one of the more dramatic and emotional novels about a broken marriage I have read recently. Hunter did a great job at developing the characters and their relationships to make you feel uncomfortable and sympathize with them at the same time. While the pace of the book is slow paced at times (perhaps partially due to the length of this story), overall it does have a good balance of building to its conclusion.
