The fact that architectural discussion has largely untrodden territory in philosophy takes phenomenological and hermeneutical thinker Günter Figal on to its unexploured paths. Having previously surveyed the works of Frank Lloyd Wright and Peter Zumthor in its pages, Figal devotes attention to Tadao Ando's building in this work. Among Figal's philosophical reflections are reflections on space, on modernity—but also, given the fact that many of Ando's buildings are houses of collecting pieces of art, on art.
Figal examines Ando's work—simple in their economical use of their sole materials—as manifestations of an architect's grasp of what is possible. In Ando prominent buildings we see the latter determining and changing their surroundings; through their hallways, staircases, and transitional zones, they influence as to how visitors behave in them and also convey a sense of history without being traditionalist. When it comes to outdoor architecture, Figal escapes from the beaten track of sculptural or architectural debate.
The fact that architectural discussions are largely undiscovered territory in philosophy get the phenomenological hermeneutical thinker Günter Fagel into unexplored waters. After initially surveying the effects of Frank Lloyd Wright and Peter Zühstorffs works, Fagel now turns his attention towards Tadafos Anodos's buildings. His philosophical analysis includes recollections concerning space, Modernity, and, due to the fact that, many of Anodos buildings are included within museums and house masterpieces, heritage.

Описание книги от Günter Figal
The fact that discussions of architecture are largely unchartered territory in philosophy leads the phenomenological and hermeneutical philosopher Günter Figal onto its unexplored paths. After previously surveying the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and Peter Zumthor, Figal turns his attention to Tadao Ando’s buildings in this book. Figal’s philosophical considerations include refl ections on space, modernity, but also—in light of the fact that many of Ando’s buildings are museums or house works of art—on art. Figal explores Ando’s buildings—simple and reduced in their sparing use of only a few materials—as manifestations of the architect’s sense for what is possible. Ando’s buildings determine and change their locations; through their passageways, staircases, and transitional areas, they infl uence how visitors behave in them, and also communicate a sense of tradition without being traditional. Figal’s book steps away from the beaten track of architectural discourse.
