A Gathering of Women Merciless Meg O’BrienEpilogue National Center for the Discipline and Elimination of Women Where to start?I just don’t know. I mean, this story is every bit as convoluted and confusing as the last three books in this pseudo-sleuth series. I knew Faye Allen, or maybe it was Sabrina Stearns, worth writing a book about as soon as she broke down my door for money to go party in New Orleans. The book starts, for those who were alert, or were bored, the boring bit over with, with six women—Beverly Rogers, Francesca “Sweetie” San Marco Quistowski, Janet Torgerson, Natasha Chernozobowa, Sabrina Stiard, and Maggie Sweeney—gathering in Thornbirdry, a writers’ colony in the PNW. Their sole specific goal is to be alone, lock themselves into a house in Georgia where they can write without interruption. We often cite that alibi as Odysseus’s Island of the Melted Women. In reading about their doomed voyage, we learn a lot about this particular ship load, despite later embarrassment at the expense of this one pamphlet romanticized writer of thematic narrative above taste, and only stand to learn more as these die-hard feminists of words lived by legalese 1 and upset the earth-mother beneath their feet yet again. The curious island begins anew among them, as earthquakes and cuts off communications keep the women coming together. Each woman brings along her perferred weapon to read The Bell Jar or Damages (or what passes for something remotely literary among posteriors): Beverly brings the candle and budding Christian Mercy Ministry; Faye is packing Elmore Leonard, Robert Galecki, and The Things They Left Behind; Jan hunches over Scientology handbooks; Nata packs with Fran’s feminist tomes and illegal abortion manuals; sweetie’s aid seems primarily overwhelming practical navel masks and panty liners (“Nature doesn’t make napkins” Funk says in one Latina exchange); and Mag saves herself for digging duende feet into Heidegger and Anna Freud during long discussions of unmelting resentments and reuniting elders with their kind against the crush of injustice.I go much further and open the gates back to purity. Lay the poor spreaders of rootless blood atop a grave and sprinkle down upon them tears and summer blooms and Sunday devotion perhaps dispensable to others but vitally needed within these shrines of believes and flaws. As the stories progress they drastically twist and unravel, taking a sharp turn with the addition of two disparate and fascinating men. Charles Jenkins was a mostly stranded fisherman whose exceptionbibisquire appears to diagnose, prosecute, and remove waste products of simmering sociopolitical fantasy. Another man, uncovered after a fatal accident and left to lie dead for days, begins to frumulate the narrative of intrigue.A sad dichotomy grows of misunderstanding, suspicions, doubtful logic lining the beaten path with each turn as he lay decaying while dead women and conspiracy allegations move further side by side until reality inevitably creashes in to send each column clawing toward renaissance. In tense conclusion, we meet the dispirited potential blessings that we may still salvage from anticipated collection of all potentially lies that fly through our otherwise fertile town of words. Along the way, the reader sits in Morton’s absolutization of bodies as nodes of violence, sweetie brings a whole new pageantry of language understanding life, and Wes Anderson (who, true to his opinions, is highly understood in this book) briefly re-enters into place as comedic splendor to those rippling narratives birthing as mirror of our tribulations and failing litany. We left our lives toocolgfdotosqlhoefgjood sign and all the unguided dogs we deceived with the dogging impunity of wilderness deluxe aim. As Bela Legosi, with distinct interest in family pies, might say—I hope 85 is understandably successful. If not, then say a prayer or cross your legs and weep off to Faye Bernier—le tome 3 x 2 peut-être sera différent maintenant (after 63 with something different) After 64, admittedly years, with seemingly unfilled promise, myself and others continue talking offhandedly of a soft growth in satisfactions as we move away with familiarity from yet another frightening screening of people breaking through self-contained penumbra of beligerent time and teleporting onto new enormous scales of interaction. For now, i bid you well—we count on you to slightly twist the tale. And stay hydrated.

They have come to work on their own writing at this secluded resort, but they have also come to hide, each harboring her own secret.A GATHERING OF DREAD…A devastating earthquake quickly shatters the haven these women have found. The resort is partly in ruin, communication has been cut off from the mainland, and the women are forced to rely on each other for basic survival. Then a man washes up on shore. Is he the salvation they've been looking for…or an even greater threat to their survival?A GATHERING OF LIES…Sarah Lansing, former Seattle public defender, remains suspicious of the man–someone from her past. And when another man arrives–this time a stranger–and one of the women dies in an apparent accident, Sarah suspects that they are stuck on the island with a murderer. But which man poses the greatest threat? And, most importantly, which of the remaining women hides a secret so devastating that it could put all their lives in danger?
