From Governess to Society Wife is the story of Gabriel's past, his thoughts and interactions with Eve earlier on, but also the reason behind his cold nature. Gabriel has always been destined to marry someone of social standing where the society is well known & pampered by members of royalty. He has often been told that it would be better this way, which he resents rather than follow a male divorcee — He finds this scenario unsuitable due to social disapproval, although when Ann Fielding marries ex-Marine Robert Rogers they both cancelled by royal approval. Without any other desirable walks of life in mind to posses, Gabriel carries the guilt & resentment that Eve will be expected to stay back home whilst he continues his career & spends time with other suitable females whereas Eve will have to conduct social life among wealthy society women whom she despises reminding her too much of The Cameo Case. Feeling furthermore continually aggrieved and foolishly as soon as consenting to believes that she would help by concealing her vast fortune & marrying him. Elsewhere Luke is an avaricious & opportunistic lord who had desires for prosperity & powerful female in quick success & at times Simon's significant one. Towards his existence, Eve finds him demanding, intimidating, possessive and harsher-natured than one would ever think amiable matters of attention. Despite pursuing their relationship desperately, Greg runs senselessly against any chance that can possibly bring them together & occasionally makes sure that things do not work out between them but throughout the novel, many events which temporarily and even permanently bring them closer to each other.
With Greg's heart, empathy and tender side, plus challenges in their relationships Chelsea Henderson manages to show feelings are universal irrespective of class or social standing.
