The title of Susan Wittig's novel, "Crystal Cave" presents an intriguing prospect. As the opening line ("Get out of her face") invites us to interpret it as a summation of the protagonist's character, and a call for action, the book soon delves into the story arc of a female psychic's ability to see past people's illusions.
For Ruby Wilcox, it starts soon enough by presenting a stage of unwelcoming and unwelcomeness as the young psychic is trying to reduce her mystical abilities. But when a dream that seemingly signifies a potential tragedy begins to seep into her life and into reality, Ruby must embark on a journey that will test the limits of her power and resolve. With flashbacks and an array of disturbing encounters, Alice Miranda Peters' prose introduces a powerful vision of psychic power that manifests itself in unexpected ways. At the same time, she pours a measured tone of experience over Ruby that articulates the intrigue, confusion and ethical dilemma posed by a crystal cave's intuitive and prophetic content. But as she asks a series of questions through the novel to make sense of the haunting nightmares, Crystal Cave begins to envelop all readership, from readers who believe in the existential nature of dreaming, to skeptics who struggle to accept the potentially miraculous nature of human perception.
Susan Wittig, author of The Crystal Cave series, brings us NoBODY Unabridged. Ruby Wilcox, owner of the Crystal Cave, Pecan Springs' only New Age shop, has always tried to downplay her psychic gift – until she experiences a horrifying nightmare that just won't stop. Again and again, she dreams that a woman is abducted on the hike-and-bike trail and knows that the victim is in deadly danger. Prodded by her friend and partner, China Bayles, Ruby goes to the police – only to find that her dream has already become far too real. Police chief Sheila Dawson puts Detective Ethan Connors in charge of this no-body case. But Connors is a skeptic who is convinced that all psychics are frauds. And Ruby herself still has plenty of doubts. What will she have to do to prove to Detective Connors – and to herself – that her gift can be trusted?
