This book, as the title says, is primarily intended to work with electric guitar and bass, but you'll find a great deal here for your bass guitar as well. Rick Turner's compositions are full of both excitement and emotion. It will give your band the chance to play spacy opener after solid, military section. Typically, openers have been awkward and cliched for me, and I've avoided them for my own bands because I won't play over riffs that hold interest. I was looking for a song that had attitude and broke boundaries. Every solo on this CD (which is 15 minutes) has potential to be internalized and expanded into a virtuoso solo worthy of any Eddie Van Halen or Randy Rhodes moment. There simply isn't a need for groups to resort to such tactics on Turner releases. Obviously, guitar heroes in arenas don't care about songs exploding with dozens of hands, and none of their audience members will, because they would n't be there. These tunes are terrific for festivals and small clubs too. The drum and bass play is exceptional (and very fitting despite it being recorded by Benson), bassist Duesenberg is the instrument of choice, and drummer Tuck essentially plays throughout the entire 14 track disc. Not only is Rick Turner a gifted musician, he also brings a knack for composition to the table, giving his twist on existing classics, like "Born To Be Wild" and a well-drawn alternate take on "Hey Jude", fresh sonics that punch well above their weight class.
