Like a fellow priest who knows his way around the Bible but needs an encyclopedia of every ritual, rite, tradition, and dogma, I was about to pick up the coffee I had purchased at Starbucks and was confronted with the colorful book cover of "Catholicism for Dummies." Hard to refuse a deal this good. On the surface, the title seemed too simple, understanding the tenets of any religious tradition was not something I expected to need a book titled "for dummies" to explain to me. But, after leaving the cozy ambiance of Starbucks behind, I took pity on myself and committed to giving this helpful tutorial a try.
It was a serious attempt to create a navigable article for the uninitiated into Catholicism. For us muggles paying attention to many intricacies of Catholic dogma while caring less about everyone else who claims to follow Christ can often leave us completely naitve to increasingly outdated traditions all around. This book would be my guide to relearning some of those basics while also being an entertaining escape into what I still know pretty thoroughly.
