Blue Ridge Hideaway by Cynthia A. Thomason is an entertaining crime fiction novel narrated in the fascinating third person multiple-pov format.
Characters Dorie, Anita, Keely and Taylor provide pertinent glimpses of what happens in the head of the protagonist. Although Dorie or Anita seem to have the most to do with the action it's important to remember that the secrets of the other three add colour and depth to our understanding of Dorie's story - and that the author cannot shy from some entertaining literary license here and there. In this opposite of dark and gritty Police Procedurals world readers will meet likable ordinary villagers who turn bad simply because they themselves are under duress. Much of the action for instance takes place using little more than the can of macing Dorie brings along with her to untangle Bret however that gets a helping hand when her most unlikely ally, Buster, decides to turn himself into the police station as she would not be able to tread in court without all the physical evidence she collected surrounding Bret's initial con creating the desire to co-operate.
The primary flaw in this format is that sometimes the varying points of view and their inherent different perspectives can slow down the pace of the story but it always comes back up to speed offering a multi-layered commentary of events never resolved with poignant ironies which ultimately make the reader fall in love with these flawed protagonists who display a stubborn willfulness to rise above their circumstances like so many young female protagonists throughout literature.
