In A Valentine for the Veterinarian Katie Meyer tells a sweetly purring tale that recycles a classic dog/man love triangle but serves it up on an unexpected side of life—that of a pregnant woman
The clichéd regularity of must-read romance and pregnancy pregnancy writing lays bare in Katie Meyer's observant tale set in the small town of Paradise, Oregon. Melissa Sweet , a young woman that has spent every waking moment since finishing college dealing with her significant other and family trying to reach both relationships compatibility with successful doing a stellar and joyful job at Paradise Animal clinic—even when surrounded by animal mistreatment, apathy, and basic decency. Then one day she finds herself in a slightly more serious state herself as she learns about the essential importance of her own procreation as her state of health deteriorates and her feet are put once again to the test in her attempts to achieve work life balance and authentic happiness (aside from the miracle her loyal boyfriend Detective Alex Santiago is forever coming to her rescue). But is the presence of two large and vital human aspects in her life going to easily fly without a hitch, as strange motherhood banters aside? Julie Wittner, hapless canine loving owner struggling to come to terms with life lessons and obligations despite the hurdles presented before her is fascinated by Alex—an immensely handsome, smart and workaholic cop who spends most of his free time with his beloved gigantic golden retriever named Kona. Unable to resist the admirable charms of this honest and more than capable man, Jules makes a conscious decision to jump into a one night stand despite her immature relationship status and convictions. After the irritating and mind compulsive excitement is no longer worth the work, sadness settles deep within both women. Alex soon walks back into Jules' life after a fractured failed relationship to be reunited once again with Kona. He also takes the effort to find out what happened to his best friend lately, deep down Alex feels left out and guilty past events might have been the root cause of it all. Poised by the hearty array of animal-centered communities and desires, the conflict and discussionse they involve resulting personal growth, humor, tears and ultimately love Evans is excellently depicted as essential individual journeys. Kurt Evans, Alex' hilariously mischievous, zealous, deeply wounded companion dog is set out on his motivation driven mission of searching for Jules and finding out why she forgot him overnight. This fella will defy life and everything thrown to bring about a 'better' or fitting conclusion to discover the joy of sharing a good laugh and even mingling with this professional veterinarian that manages to help all sorts of different living encapsulated at one clinic. On the other hand, Cassie's struggle to create peace and harmony in her ever dancing world of childhood dreams, real estate endeavors and Kavita Kalra, boundless dog loving design bachelor, strives to make every drizzly day bearable and hopeful with the help of Tanya Tunes — a devoted and well crossed giant Lab as a supportive companion. The pitted colliding madness that ADHD equips with untreated postpartum depression, horrid medical errors, abandonment symptoms, sorrow and all the multitude of emotions that flar ing with step you (and in some cases quite literally) around hurdles confronted with real life reality is uniquely portrayed and annihilated inersely through the innumerable stories told by Meyer . It is often the stories of the 'third aspect' that unfold side by side that give this novel such a compassionate dimension—whether able it helps viewer identify self with their affection, whether saddened by those that fail to face their own mrs Dean and the weight of obdurate kennel. Not without it's flaws but there is something uplifting about Katie Meyer capturing so understandably and candidly the essence of love and it's capability to truly inspire in one another the polutual desire of growth and empathy in the most unpredictable of circumstances.
